Fool Proof Pie Crust

This recipe makes 4 crusts.


4 cups flour

1 Tbl sugar

2 tsp salt

1 3/4 cup Crisco shortening

1/2 cup water

1 Tbl white or cider vinegar

1 egg


1. Stir together flour, sugar, and salt with a fork.

2. Cut in the shortening (with a pastry blender or two knives) until crumbly.

3. In a small bowl, beat together the water, vinegar, and egg.  Add to the flour mixture and stir until moistened.

4. Divide dough into 4 portions of 9 oz each.  Wrap in wax paper.  Chill at least 1 hour or up to 3 days.  Allow dough to warm slightly before rolling out.  Can freeze.

If baking unfilled, bake 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes.  If baking filled, follow the recipe.
